1. At the playground
After several rounds of cheap beer and delicious burgers served up at the Canteen bar in the very un-touristy Lakeside town of L’Anse Michigan, we went on the swings had a few spins on the merry-go-round, and a bit of teeter tottering. Atop the Monkey bars, I went back in time…Lover Boy and Bf’s husband suddenly seemed “cootie” infested up there.
2. Getting a big head
About 5 people told me my s'mores were the best they ever had in their life. *pats self on back*. The problem with that is that I was so busy making them I couldn’t sit and enjoy them myself.
3. Shampoo commercial pitch:
A blond, a brunette and a redhead playful swim in a canyon pool. Washing their hair with an organic lavender shampoo, and giggling in waterfalls. Later taking turns brushing each other’s locks while sitting on a rock ledge. It’s either a shampoo commercial or the opening scene of some late night skin-a-max flick. Take your pick, but either way it was pretty fun.
4. Canyon Falls
Last year I was so busy hauling my stuff on the trail that I never actually saw “Canyon Falls” But this year armed with beer (of course) we waded and rock-hoped our way upstream to the falls and took some great pictures while actually sitting under the falls
5. Shooting star
We gathered our lanterns and flashlights and ventured into the canyon and across the moving water to the flat rock island. Lying on our backs we gazed up at the brilliantly dotted sky in amazement. Dubs and I gasped and squealed when we saw what looked like a rocket streaking through the sky. Yellow, red and long tailed; it was the most amazing shooting star I’ve ever seen
6. Where are we?
We listened to the eerie noises that came out of the woods and freaked each other out. It didn’t help that my fellow campers and I were pretty careless about leaving food around the campsite. We never saw anything but red squirrels (who were pretty hostile btw) but I kept thinking whilst lying in my tent that it’s only a matter of time before our camp becomes a bear buffet. On the last night we heard this loud sound like a smoke monster tearing into trees and found myself thinking of Charlie’s famous Lost quote.
7. Taking the plunge
The other main attraction to Canyon Falls Roadside park (besides the falls themselves is a 40-foot cliff over a deep, cold pool below. College kids from Michigan tech come here and take turns impressing each other by jumping off this precipice. On Saturday there was a group of about 50-75! For those with a little less guts there’s a ledge just below to jump off of that provides a pretty good adrenaline rush. I jumped twice. Once Friday and again Saturday. I would jump off the top (the height isn’t the problem) but I’m afraid I won’t jump out far enough and hit that little ledge. It’s crazy to jump that far because you have just enough time to think about the fact that you’re still falling and then you hit the icy cold water.

It's the prettiest place I've been in Michigan (so far).
The first year I went I climbed up the side of the falls, so fun. But that jump scares the crap out of me, I was pretty glad I have an excuse to NOT do it this year.
And a squirrel was coming after me with a pinecone by my tent. I swear.
that sounds amazing....
NOW WHERE ARE THE PICTURES????
that doesn't sound like fun at all
Mow - I'm telling ya those squirrels were vicious
Tiff - There are pictures, on many different cameras owned by many people...but I'll try to get a sampling for your viewing pleasure
TS - no actually it was kinda boring ;)
Just when I had given up hope that you would never update again. Lol. Squirrels are completely vicious. They smell my fear. I know it. You jumped twice!! I hope someone got a picture of you jumping!
